There are a lot of free iPhone apps that make it easy and (because they’re apps) fun to make more eco-friendly choices — and even some that help you take action to save this planet. So, if you liked last week’s post about Apps for Democracy, get ready for a treat.

In less than 48 hours, the American Red Cross had received more than $35m in donations – including $8m directly from texts.
“This breaks all world records for a mobile giving campaign,” says their spokeswoman, Gloria Huang.
“It’s been incredible. People have donated more to Haiti than to Hurricane Katrina or the tsunami in Asia.
“And Twitter has played an extremely significant part.”

I ran across a new app for democracy today and thought it was time to share some of my favorites so far.

In a world of far too many social media tools and not enough resources, FourSquare the popular geo location social network/game/craze has tested their own fund raising component to the service. Is this something that nonprofits need to keep on their radar? Do you need to hire a foursquare intern now?
