What can we learn from Momsrising.org? What started as small group of committed mothers who were fighting for social justice grew into an actual movement comprising more than one million members in just three years. How did they do it?

Heather Mcleod Grant explores some valuable lessons with the rise of the mommy blogging movement:
- Focus on movement making instead of organizational development. I’ve said this before, you can’t attract partners when you are focused on your own logo.
- Be membership focused. Momsrising allows their network to determine which policies are important, rather than dictate which direction to take.
- Merge online and offline. Your organization can only be so powerful when it’s trapped online. Momsrising encouraged their members to meetup in person and discuss the issues rather than confine everything to chat forums.
